Just wanted you to see some of Montreal.

We went to the Temple yesterday. We had permission to go out of the mission to Montreal for the day. It had been a while since we had attended the temple and It was a nice renewing. Montreal is one of the smaller Temples. Beautiful and simple. The session was in english, but there were more French speaking members there. It was a very nice experience.

We traveled with another couple from our mission, The Vorwallers. We enjoyed our time together and enjoyed good food in the Old PORT area of Old Montreal. It would not have been a real trip for Elder Slade and I if we hadn't gotten lost a couple of times. We must have done somethings right because we were always close to where we needed to be when we stopped to ask "where are we?'

We had a Sister pass away this past week . She was a member of the ward. She had been fighting cancer for a while. The funeral was today. So the FM missionaries cut 2 big buckets of flowers from the flower beds around the center so {Someone } could put the flower arrangement together.
One of the FM missionaries imagined a Bowery of flowers. I had in mind a large arrangement. We
reached a middle of the road agreement. We would up with 5 arrangements . Here are a few.







As part of the procession they had the fire truck lead the way aroung the monument and then back down to the church. It was not a bad idea. However I have not heard of it before. In fact here instead of saying there would be a viewing the paper says there will be a "calling" prior to the Funeral. The husband and the daughters seem to be handling the passing with great faith.
The Dad is a volunteer fireman. Which explains why the trucks.

We went to The Flume and The Notch yesterday, both are great examples of the beauty on the earth.
What a loving Heavenly Father we have to provide us with the beauty around us. The pictures show our walk in the Flume gorge. Nice walk.

Hear ye , Hear ye!!!!!!!! The Slades' have a new grandbaby.
Dallin Slade Chesley came to us special delivery 8-8-08,
weighing in at 6lbs. 13 oz. 20" long.

Here are a few pictures of our newest edition. Looks like his
brothers. We hope that this picture of him sleeping is indicative
of his ability to sleep.



His Mom and Dad are looking good for a couple that have 4 beautiful children.

Lucky parents they are. And we feel blessed to have all of them in our Family.




I am also including a picture of a cute little fawn that we see often as we take the golf cart and go to the
foundation stones with the visitors. Today we just happened to have a camera.




We had zone conference today. Interesting stories the Elders told. We also got to visit with the mission President. We are planning to go to Montreal to the temple in 2 weeks . He gave us permission.

We wanted to have you see the Chapel that we attend. So yesterday we went down and took pictures. The Chapel is small but very New England.

It was a cloudy day(imagine that) , On a sunny day it is beautiful .

We have had some very interesting experiences as guides. Least you all have the impression that all we do is travel about seeing the State of Vermont. Last week I had 2 couples here for a tour. The one girl (as she seemed young 21 ??) kept looking at me in such a funny way. As we moved around the room it was making me a little uncomfortable. As I began to tell aabout the Prophets leg surgery--she looked even more odd. All at once she just crumpled and feel onto the floor in a dead faint. Well there you have it, I put someone out. I had no idea what to do. Those with her talked to her --helped her sit up and then to sit in the chair. I decided that maybe the description of the surgery was too much for her. Those with her agreed with me and she said 'No" . I quickly concluded and went on. She was so stiff, I think it contributed to her stiffness in that she wasn't inclined to really like the guy she was with. (stress maybe) Later that same day a couple drove up, he was quite thin and had longish curly hair. I am thinking this is a true Vermonter, clean cut but alittle on the relaxed side. They had 3 children, boy (5). 2 girls (3, 9 months) The lady walked up with one of those baby wrap carriers, I certainly did not expect them to be Members(as I viewed them from a distance). Upon greeting them, finding out they had been living here, I found out they are on their way to BYU to teach Hebrew. She had learned Hebrew at BYU and in Israel. they were outstaning. The little boy kept asking so many questions: "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" "Can I push this button?" , "How tall was Joseph Smith?", "This is a new bench, was it here when you got here?" Very grown up.

We have had many young families visit. It is fun to see them teach the gospel.

Our Friday Evening Hike !!!!!!!

We went hiking last nite with another set of missionaries, to a spot close to their home.

It was interesting to see the old cave like buildings. There are several theories as to what

these places were used for. The bottom picture doesn't have a roof. But has very thick walls, and is better contructed than the 1st one.

The missionaries here have a garden. Actually , the garden is throughout the grounds. The FM missionaries planted , green beans, onions, chard, tomatoes, squash and nastiurshums through each flower bed. So , the beans in the bucket were enough to split between 4 couples . They were sure good.

Our Prep day we went to the home of Calvin Coolidge. He was quite an individual. He was born in the back of the general store(the brown building). The room below is the bedroom in the home . The bench, was used as a crib when there were no guests(note the railing on the left side) , it was removed when they need the seating. Interesting!!!




























Our next stop was the home of Robert Lincoln, called "Heldene". He was the son of Abe and Mary Lincoln, and president of the Pullman Car company. This home was only their summer home. It is built on the concept of the Pullman car(longgggg halls , lights in the halls like the train cars, a swinging door between the butlers pantry and the dining room) Quite the spread.

This tree is an apple tree, it seems very old, You will see Elder Slade spreading the trunks, and then putting his arm through the trunk. (haha)
