SLADE'S LEFT THE FARM, TO END UP AT THE FARM
Or close to it.

The Slade's enjoyed themselves so much at the Tunbridge Expo, they found themselves on the front of the VERMONT LIFE Magazine. Pretty good picture , huh!

We find ourselves tired at the end of the day. Dad goes each morning and climbs to the top of Patriarch Hill (round trip about 1 hour) , then we race to have breakfast and fix a lunch so we won't starve to death(like we would, because we eat all the time) .

Elder Slade has now been diagnosed with a swollen cornea. The dr. at Dartmouth does not know why
and the dr. sent us to a cornea specialist. ASAP --haha, but they can't see him until the 19th of Aug. That is the speed at which Vermonters seem to move. They are real nice but not in any hurry.
We have been rattling cages trying to get seen sooner. The eye is now blurry, and he can't see out of it very well. So we will see how fast this moves. The Dr. from the mission called a Dr. in SLC that knows a Dr. in Hartford that knows a son of a friend at Dartmouth. The long way around but cages are rattleing. In the meantime , Elder McKinnon's daughter in law's father is an eye specialist and he is on the phone with Elder Slade now. We will see.

We havebeen en busy getting ready for the Tunbridge Expo. It is part of the Vermont Historical Society. They have booths on family history, finding your roots, antique farm equip, civil war, revolutionary war etc. They have little parade and cannons get shot off and there is a general feeling of patriotism. Being in New England they were pretty involved in the development of this country. They are very nice, but don't get into much of a hurry. 4 lane roads in towns have a speed limit of 40 where in AZ and Id we would go at least 45= 55/ Makes me a little crazy.

We have included some before and after pictures of the booth at the Expo. The picture on top is of us in the office. I was going from computer to computer helping with the projects they were each working on. The Yard stick makes me look like I have much more authority than I do.

We took a trip to the Shelborne museum on Monday very interesting. We went because the sawmill that was built by my gggGrandfather built in So. Royalton had been dismantled and taken to the museum. This is a small display box.

There are 2 cans (one on the left top shelf , other on the far right top shelf) they say SLADES

MARJORIM

This was in the General store, It looked alot like the old trading posts inside .

Our trip to Shelbourne Museum:

the picture of the pewter room is a miniature setting . They had it full of mini pewter. I thought Patricia would be especially interested in this.

We saw dolls, old old dolls and newer dolls up to the 1950's They would not allow pictures in that building so I have no pictures. But I thought of several of you and how interested you would be interested, you would love it.

There was a whole house full of old and new quilts. it was so fun for me to see. One of the quilts was pieced together with pieces that were the size of a postage stamp. There were 12,900 pieces. So amazing You would have to love piecing to do that much work. Again there were no pictures allowed.

We also saw the steamboat Ticonderoga, Kathy and Frank would love this because it is the precursor to the large cruise ships. So beautiful yet so small .

There was a Warren Kimball exhibt that was nice .

Also a Mary Cassat showing , which was also nice.

They had old buggy's and sleigh's. An old school house, it was fun to visit.

I have been assigned the job of being in charge of the Expo at Tunbridge. So I was working on putting together a large pedigree chart, with each major sir name in a different color. I thought it would bring some interest geneology. I found as I was doing that, I had a relative that was born in South Royalton, VT. Here I stand in South Royalton. I later was in the closet in the missionary office looking for something...when I found 2 books on the history and geneology of So. Royalton. So I've been out researching and pictureing headstones. I think I have missed some, so I will return. I have had to go buy large sidewalk chaulk. Aren't they neat

I know that you are all going to be tired of my pictures of flowers. I am having fun so I may continue but will not post them all. The hanging basket to the left is one of my favorites. I was able to capture the butterfly as it checked out the flowers.

This hanging basket it also a favorite. I love the yellow flowers . It is such a creamy yellow. Love the look.

Each of these baskets hang off the eaves of the visitors center.

Love this mission!!!!!

These pictures are my 1st attempt to taking interesting pictures. the one is of the salamander, like the one the youth were catching yesterday.

We had one of our 1st bus tours today , they were graduates from Utah county seminaries . On a Heritage foundation tour. There were about 150 of them. They came on 2 buses and were very well behaved. We divided them into 4 groups. Three of them took tours at the center and Sister Vorwaller and I took the golf cart and took about 60-75 of them to the foundations. Actually, We took the leaders on the cart, went past the kids and met them at each site to give information. The 1st group was anxious to go and come (about 1/2 mile) , but the 2nd group had already been thru the tours and they were more interested in catching Salamanders than listening. They are like little orange lizards. THey wanted to take them home with them. Who knew!! I felt sorry for the little guys, because they have about another 1 1/2 week to be on the road.

They planned to have a little fireside at the residence tonight. It should have been very hot , since the AC went out today. We are counting our blessings, since we are the only missionaries that have AC . We sure are glad that it works and we can enjoy it. The office was so hot today we had fans going all day trying to cool off.

We had rain for about 3 days and Sunday we woke to the beautiful Fog. this is the road up to our little home. Dad is now the laundry man he does all the wash. Pretty good at it . We have only ruined 2 shirts and it was even , 1 his and 1 mine. So we feel pretty good about things.

We went to Royalton today to try to find the place that my
Grandmothers GG Grandfather had when he lived here in 1765.
There is a road in the area called Morgan Road
Named after Isaac Morgan, (father of Lucy), Lucy(mother of Virginia), Virginia]
(mother of Mary Jeannette) , Mary(mother of Ruby Virginia.
This is looking over the bridge ( (used to be a covered bridge)

Here we see a part of the mill behind the trees,
note the dam and the water and water falls.

This is a little closer, the upright saw in in a museum in Shellbourne, so one day we may
actually get there.

We see here the distance it is from the road. It is kinda interesting to find these places
and see what we can find that leads to our ancestors. I am so surprise that all is so well
documented. Hope to find more information.

The rains came and the water came up,
and the dirt came tumbling down.

It was quite the rain. I will have to admit that it has been really dry. It sure did bring the bugs out. We are getting so we spray ourselves with repellent before we go in each day. It does help. I think I may need to spray my legs, I seem to have several bites on my legs and I am afraid to scratch them, for fear I will introduce staph into my system . I know , I know I am paranoid. Can't help myself.

I love this picture. so I thought I would give you the link.

Yesterday was a successful day. We had a steady flow of visitors and about half of them were not members of our faith. Some of them were so sweet and accepting. There are others that are less than interested . It makes one wonder why they stop. Maybe they are more touched than we will know.

It is a blessing to us that we are here. We miss our family. -- But Jodi was right --the Lord comforts our hearts so we don't feel overly sad. We love the blogs of family so we can keep up.
